The Gettys Group Gettys CEO Ron Swidler Contributes to The Future of Hotels: Creating What’s Next
We’re proud to share that our CEO, Ron Swidler, is a contributing author to The Future of Hotels: Creating What’s Next, a new book exploring how hospitality may evolve on the road to 2050.
The book brings together perspectives from hospitality leaders around the world, offering a range of viewpoints on how the industry may respond to changing guest expectations, advancements in technology, and increasing focus on sustainability. Through a series of contributed chapters, it examines both the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of hotels.
Ron co-authored the chapter, “Designing the Future Sleep Experience,” alongside Pasi Tuominen. Their chapter focuses on how one of the most fundamental elements of hospitality—sleep—may be redefined in the years ahead. As guest expectations continue to shift, sleep is becoming a more intentional part of the overall hotel experience rather than a passive outcome of the stay.
The chapter explores how evolving insights into wellbeing, combined with a more holistic approach to design, may influence how sleep environments are created. Considerations such as lighting, acoustics, temperature, and overall sensory conditions are examined as part of a more integrated approach to supporting rest. Rather than treating these elements independently, the future sleep experience is framed as a coordinated system designed to improve comfort and consistency.
A key theme throughout the chapter is the idea that guest expectations are becoming more nuanced. Travelers are increasingly aware of the role sleep plays in overall wellbeing, and this awareness is influencing what they value in a hotel stay. In response, hotels may begin to place greater emphasis on how rooms support rest, recovery, and relaxation.
Ron and Pasi also point to the growing intersection of design and technology in shaping these experiences. While the chapter does not present a single solution, it highlights the importance of adaptability—creating environments that can respond to different guest needs while maintaining a clear and cohesive design intent.
The Future of Hotels: Creating What’s Next reflects a broader industry effort to think critically about what lies ahead. By bringing together a diverse group of contributors, the book offers a snapshot of how hospitality leaders are approaching long-term change and innovation.
Ron’s participation in this effort reinforces our continued focus on exploring how design can evolve alongside the needs of both guests and operators.
